Interim Ministry at Westmoreland
Now is an important and inspiring time at Westmoreland –
a time of renewal, discernment, and moving prayerfully into the future.
God is at work.
We hope you will become a vital participant in shaping this interim time.
In June 2010 Westmoreland moved into this time of pastoral transition and interim ministry, a time to prayerfully listen to one another as we reflect on our past and share our hopes for God’s work through us in the future. The interim between called senior ministers also provides us a wonderful opportunity for action – to reach out to others, explore new avenues of worship, spiritual growth and governance, and improve our church home.
Early on we affirmed lay- and staff leadership for the transition and consulted with the Potomac Association and Central Atlantic Conference of the UCC. During the summer of 2010 we prepared in covenant for our journey together, and the Executive Committee completed our Transition Plan.
The Transition Plan called on us to welcome an Interim Senior Minister who, while participating fully in the life of the congregation, would lead us in our preparation, search and call of a new called Senior Minister. Rev. Dr. Sidney Fowler accepted our invitation in September and began his service in October 2010.
Sid’s arrival brought renewed energy and leadership to our work. We formed an Interim Working Team to guide this important time. In Congregational Conversation on November 5, 2010, we began to share our hopes for the future, and make sure that all have an opportunity to be heard.
Team members are anxious to listen to you – and will continue to offer all kinds of opportunities to listen to the widest audience of Westmoreland members and friends. Please give them a call or email them.
The Executive Committee has recently charged the working team with specific responsibilities. The Interim Working Team presented an overall Interim Ministry Plan at the Annual Meeting on January 23, 2011.
