City Gate
City Gate's primary focus is providing quality summer, after-school, and evening programs free of charge in undeserved and impoverished neighborhoods. Its goal is to create lasting relationships with these children and families and empower them through out-of-school programs, special events, and emergency food/clothing assistance. City Gate also addresses the need for inclusion and empowerment in more affluent neighborhoods through a Spanish-immersion preschool, and by providing ESL classes to help internationals to strengthen English language skills and gain cultural knowledge that allow them to participate fully in society. Our “gate” is broad enough to embrace and integrate these remarkably diverse programs in a unified vision for building community. Finally, City Gate engages people from all over the country in volunteer service. This not only benefits the neighborhoods it works in, but broadens their understanding of the multi-faceted issues surrounding poverty, encouraging them to go and improve their home communities.
