Purpose Statement
Ministries to Children and Youth
With congregational support and input, the Board
of
Christian Education composed a Purpose Statement for the Children and
Youth Ministries at Westmoreland. We started with a quote from
Westmoreland's Declaration of Purpose:
"It shall be our aim to bring joy to little children, instruction and
high ideals to youth, ...and to labor together for the betterment of
humankind."
Then we expanded these ideas into the Purpose Statement for Children's
and Youth Ministries:
We celebrate all people as children of God embarking on their own
spiritual journeys. We seek to enable our children to connect with this
holy power throughout their lives. Therefore, we seek to develop in our
children:
- Security in their faith
- Confidence in their worth
and gifts
- Strong relationships with
one another
- Grounding in the Biblical
story
- Values that lead to advocacy
and service
as part of living
- Certainty that they can
trust and rely on
their faith community
- Trust in their spiritual
foundations and
a thirst to see them deepen
We strive to achieve these goals through a
hands-on,
experiential education, in an atmosphere of love and acceptance.
