Westmoreland has had a long-standing commitment to
S.O.M.E. (So Others May Eat). Originally a soup kitchen, it has, in the
last thirty years, evolved into a comprehensive social services agency
addressing the emergency and rehabilitative needs of the homeless and
most needy and vulnerable of the city. Over 900 nutritious meals are
served each day in an atmosphere of caring. The need is great!
Our Commitment and Your
Opportunity
We have been providing breakfast foods for the first
Thursday of each month, for over 20 years. We are currently providing a
lunch casserole, all of us making the same recipe (at S.O.M.E.'s
request). Everything else, including the delivery schedule, remains the
same. Items may be brought to church any day
of the month. Casserole pans and copies of the recipe are
available on the "What's Happening" table. Casseroles should be tightly
covered with foil. (Please do not use plastic wrap as casseroles go
from freezer to oven without being uncovered.) Label your casserole for
S.O.M.E. If you are unable to shop and assemble a casserole, S.O.M.E.
still accepts cereal and juice (plastic bottles or cans). Place those
labeled items on the counter in the kitchen. Thank you! The recipients
of your contributions of food are deeply grateful for your generosity.
Additional drivers are needed to deliver the casseroles.
If you can help, please contact the Church office at 301-229-7766. The
delivery schedule for the rest of 2007 is as follows:
Tuna Noodle Casserole
(fits WCUCC casserole pans)
1 lb. bag of noodles
2 15 oz. cans of tuna OR 4 7 1/2 oz cans
2 cans cr. of mushroom soup
3/4 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
1 can milk
Cook noodles “al dente” (slightly firm). Meanwhile, in a very large
bowl or large pot, mix soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce. Add tuna and
mix. Drain cooked noodles and toss with soup/milk mixture. Spray the
casserole pan thoroughly with cooking spray. Turn the mixture into the
pan. DO NOT BAKE. (Casserole will be baked at S.O.M.E.) Cool and cover
the pan tightly with heavy-duty foil or 2 layers of regular foil. Label
for S.O.M.E. Place in the church freezer.
