Board of Community Action Grant Recipients
Do you volunteer for a group that could
use a small grant? Do you work with a group that provides food,
housing, job training, health care, education, or other social services in the
greater Washington, D.C. area, or help a group working in another region or country? You can
tell the group about Westmoreland's grants of $500 to $1000 to help accomplish
its goals.
What is the Community Action Grant Program? Each year, Westmoreland's
Board of Community Action (BCA) distributes funds from the annual bazaar and
offerings made at Easter and Christmas to approximately a dozen organizations.
What are the criteria? BCA considers the
following questions in making grants to non-profit organizations:
1) Do Westmorelanders
currently volunteer in the organization?
2) Would a grant promote
individual or community self-reliance?
3) Would a grant offer
opportunities for ecumenical or intra-denominational cooperation?
4) Would a small grant
make a key difference for this organization?
How does a group apply? The grant guideline and the grant application
form are posted on this website. Applications
must arrive in the church office by February 28. BCA notifies
recipients and the church of grant decisions as soon as the grants are awarded.
