Music in Worship
Music and the arts are involved in worship, Christian
education, pastoral care, and outreach. Participating in the
learning and singing of hymns and responses is an important part of the
worship experience for the entire congregation. Each Sunday the
musical portion of the worship service enhances the spoken text based
on the scripture of the day. The choir presents an anthem that
allows for further meditation.
In addition, special musical presentations are a frequent part of worship
at Westmoreland, celebrating gifts from a variety of genres,
including jazz, bluegrass, and gospel. Recent guest musicians include
the Keiskamma Gospel Choir
from Hamburg, South Africa. The Choir was in the United States during
World Aids Awareness Week telling their story of the devastation of
their community from the disease. Click here
to view their tapestry, portraying the Last Supper, made by members of
the community, which hung in the sanctuary during the performance.
